TechHer Nigeria, a prominent tech community focused on empowering women and solving the gender gap and skill shortage in tech, has graduated 250 students from its intensive tech training and mentoring program, marking a key milestone in its mission to develop a new generation of tech professionals in Nigeria.
The ceremony, held in Lagos, celebrated the achievements of these students, who have now completed comprehensive training designed to equip them with the skills needed to thrive in Nigeria’s rapidly growing tech industry.
TechHer, in the last few months, has trained over 250 students in various tech career skills, such as product design, software testing, business analysis, digital transformation, and others.
In addition to technical expertise, the program also focused on developing soft skills, such as leadership, communication, and problem-solving abilities, ensuring that students are well-rounded professionals ready to tackle the challenges of the tech world.
Ms. Funmilayo Ikuopenikan, Founder of TechHer Nigeria, praised the graduates for their dedication and hard work throughout the training program. “We are extremely proud of these 250 individuals who have completed this rigorous program. They have shown exceptional commitment and growth, and we are confident they will make valuable contributions to the tech industry,” Ikuopenikan said.
The training program, which is designed to be flexible and accessible, was offered virtually, allowing participants to balance their learning with existing work commitments.
Many of the graduates had no prior access to such high-level training due to financial constraints but demonstrated a strong passion for technology and innovation. Ikuopenikan emphasized that this initiative aims to create opportunities for individuals from all walks of life, ensuring that those with the drive to succeed can gain the skills necessary for meaningful careers in tech.
During her address, Ayomide Bolaji-Fayehun, Lead Mentor for TechHer Nigeria, urged the government and corporate bodies to leverage technology through innovative products to drive administrative and social activities, enabling long-term growth in the tech ecosystem.
She affirmed that women’s access to education and a level playing field will alleviate the problems of unemployment, brain drain, and untapped potential.
Bolaji-Fayehun stated that the organisation has the capacity and competence to train more than 10,000 youths with the support of investors and players in the ecosystem. “By graduating this set of students who specialise in product management, product design and business analysis, we are demonstrating to the government and potential partners that we can solve unemployment problems. Before the end of this current cohort, 7 students have already gotten jobs. As of today, over 24 students have gotten jobs at entry and mid-level,” he said.
In addition to training, TechHer Nigeria has partnered with top tech accelerators like Impact Hub, and Wennovation Hub to provide career opportunities for graduates.
“Today’s graduation marks just the beginning for these graduates. We are excited to see them go on to make their mark in the tech industry and contribute to Nigeria’s growing digital economy,” Ikuopenikan concluded.
