Nigeria has long been a country where its citizens have suffered for decades, and to this day, the situation has not changed.
We have been enduring many issues, such as expensive food, high transportation costs, poor healthcare, and a failing education system, among others.
Regarding network providers, Nigeria has been plagued by poor signal quality during calls and unreliable data connections, especially for those who work online.
Having suffered through all these challenges, the decision to increase network tariffs strikes me as a bad idea, as numerous pressing issues affecting citizens remain unresolved. Therefore, adding this increase in telecom charges feels like a slow demise for Nigerians.
By raising the tariffs, the amount of airtime or data purchased daily will diminish. Conversely, those reliant on data will raise their charges. This includes services like food delivery, ride-hailing, and so forth.
My suggestion is that the government and telecommunications companies should come together for a discussion on how the government can help reduce their operational costs, so that Nigerians do not have to add the increase in telecom charges to their existing problems.
