Following suspension of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan for six months, the lawmaker reacted before the Red Chamber, saying the injustice would not be sustained.
Tribune Online reports on Thursday that after submission of a report by the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges, and Code of Conduct, recommending the Kogi Central Senator’s suspension, the Senate slammed a six-month suspension on Natasha over her shouting match with the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio.
The incident occurred after Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan complained about the unauthorised relocation of her seat, citing the Senate’s standing rules.
Senate President Godswill Akpabio cautioned her to follow protocol, but the situation escalated, with some senators calling for her suspension.
During the plenary session, Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan was not allowed to defend herself before proceeding with a vote. The lawmakers also resolved that the suspension would not be reconsidered unless she tenders a formal apology.

Meanwhile, after the motion was read, Senator Natasha stood up and said “This injustice will not be sustained”.
However, Senator Neda Imasuen, chairman of the Ethics Committee, outlined the consequences of the suspension, stating that Akpoti-Uduaghan’s office would be locked, and she would be barred from accessing the National Assembly premises.
Additionally, her salaries and those of her legislative aides will be withheld for the duration of the suspension.
For her suspension to be lifted, the Senate mandated that she submit a written apology.
