The Command’s spokesman, Mr Andrew Aniamaka, gave the confirmation the development to journalists on Thursday in Warri in a telephone conversation.
He said the suspect, who is fondly called “Dracula,” died in an undisclosed hospital where he was rushed to for medical attention in Asaba.
“The information is true, the suspected kidnap kingpin called Dracula who has been in our custody has died in a hospital where he was rushed to due to some complications.
“The cause of his death is yet to be ascertained as we are awaiting autopsy reports from the hospital where he was confirmed dead.
” The deceased has been deposited at the hospital mortuary where he died in Asaba,”
Aniamaka said.
It will be recalled the deceased was apprehended by the Police in December 2017 alongside other gang members at about 7:30 p.m in Warri after they had snatched a Navy blue Toyota Corolla car with reg. no EPE 874 DQ,
Ogbalor, who was detained over offences linked with alleged conspiracy, armed robbery and kidnapping reportedly died late Wednesday.
Former Delta Police Commissioner (CP) Zanna Ibrahim, who had earlier paraded the deceased alongside 30 others in Asaba, said Ogbalor was apprehended after another suspect implicated him in a kidnap case.
The CP also said that Ogbalor had earlier been quizzed in court over alleged murder in a communal crisis at Isoko area of Delta and was freed under suspicious circumstances by the court.
The late Ogbalor hailed from Iyede in Isoko North Local Government Area of Delta State.
