No fewer than six people were killed in separate crisis that rocked two Local Government Areas of Benue State between Saturday and Sunday.
Tribune Online learnt that of the six people reportedly killed two were said to have been killed in a communal clash in Gwer East Local Government Area while four other people were killed by suspected herdsmen in Gwer West Local Government Area.
According to a source from Gwer East, the communal clash is between Mbakume and Mbasombo people leading to the death of two people on Saturday.
Confirming the clash and death of two people, the State Command Public Relations Officer, DSP Catherine Anene, said that the crisis was a protracted one which the command had waded in before and wondered the cause of the renewed clash between the two communities.
In a related development, suspected herdsmen were said to have invaded some communities in Gwer West and killed four persons.
A native of the council told our correspondent the herders attacked several villages in the council area.
It will be recalled that 19 people were killed two weeks ago by suspected herdsmen who attacked the local government.
According to the local who identified himself as Terdoo, the herders attacked the people who had gone to their farm to harvest farm crops and went away with one person.
Gwer West local government Chairman, Mrs Grace Igbabon, who confirmed the attacks and killing of the four persons said one person was taken away
She added that the incident happened on Saturday and Sunday.
“On Saturday, May 15, 2021, at about 5:00 Pm local time, armed Fulani militia attacked Tse Shishim village around Ahume settlement in Saghev/Ukusu council ward of Gwer-West Local Government Area.
“The armed Fulani attackers on sighting three people who had gone to get food from the farm pursuit them with AK-47 guns and cutlasses.
“Two of them ran and escaped narrowly while Terhemba Shishim (Male) 35 yrs was killed by the attackers.
“Similarly, on Sunday, May 16, 2021, armed Fulani militia again between the hours of 2:00 pm – 7:00 pm launched attacks on two villages in Gwer-West local and killed Teryila Agbe (male) 28 years and Torloko Adamu (male) 40years.
“The Fulani militia also in another attack in Mbaatan, Kunav, Sengev council ward of Gwer-West local government area killed Mne Iorhemen (male) 30years while his younger brother, Terdoo Iorhemen was kidnapped with his Honda motorcycle and taken away to an unknown destination,” the chairman said.
But the State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP, Catherine Anene, said she was yet to receive the report of herdsmen attacks on Gwer West.
