Falana made this call during the sixth stakeholders’ town hall meeting organised for stakeholders in the South-West on FOIA, held at the Ibadan Business School.
The programme, with the theme: “Forging a consensus among the relevant stakeholders on the relevance of FOI act and their roles in promoting good governance, transparency and accountability in Nigeria,” was organised by CAFSO-WRAG in conjunction with Open Society Initiative for West Africa (OSIWA).
One of the keynote speakers, Dr Tola Winjobi, highlighted the achievements so far and the influence of the coalition in recent time, saying “The body has been trying its best to create more awareness about the act as a way to access information.”
Winjobi, however, charged government to rise to the challenge of capacity building and appropriate trainings of government officials on public rights to access information or records held by public institutions as provided in the act.
The meeting was attended by representatives of judges in Oyo, Osun and Ekiti states, religious leaders, civil society officers, among others.
