On Monday, members of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) and the Non-Academic Staff Union (NASU) of the University of Ilorin embarked on a seven-day warning strike to prevent disruption of the ongoing student examinations.
Consequently, the institution’s management has assigned members of the academic staff to oversee activities during this period.
It is noteworthy that members of the SSANU and NASU of the university initiated the strike on Monday in accordance with a national directive from the two unions.
The Nigerian Tribune has learned that despite the warning strike, student examinations, which began two weeks ago, were still ongoing at the school on Monday.
“A source within the university mentioned that members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) have taken charge of the examinations to prevent any disruptions,” said a source within the university.
Furthermore, Mr. Kunle Akogun, the Director of Corporate Affairs at the University of Ilorin, stated that the strike did not impact the ongoing student examinations at the institution.
“We have taken measures to ensure that the strike action does not affect the students. The management has made special arrangements to ensure the continuation of ongoing examinations,” said Akogun.
The SSANU and NASU members began a seven-day nationwide warning strike on Monday to protest what they perceive as unfair treatment and disparity in the payment of withheld salaries of their members by the Federal Government.

It has been reported that members of the two unions at the university initially reported for duty and convened a congress at the entry gate of the institution before returning to their homes.
Comrade Zuberu Ibrahim, the chairman of NASU at the University of Ilorin, affirmed the success of the strike, noting that members of the two unions complied with the directive from the national body.
“The compliance of our members with the strike is complete. We held a Congress at the university gate early on Monday before members dispersed to their respective homes, and this will continue for the next seven days,” stated Ibrahim.
Additionally, Comrade Segun Alabi, the Public Relations Officer of SSANU at the University, also confirmed that members fully adhered to the strike, with members of the union dispersing to their homes immediately after the congress held at the university gate early on Monday.
