The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) Federal University Oye Ekiti (FUOYE) branch has urged the Governing Council of the institution and other relevant stakeholders to probe the university’s finances under the leadership of its Vice Chancellor, Professor Abayomi Sunday Fasina.
It also called for an investigation of the VC over alleged sexual harassment and victimisation of one of its members, including abuse of office, in order to safeguard FUOYE’s integrity and reputation.
Rising from its congress held on Monday, SSANU, in a statement signed by its chairman and secretary, Comrade Benjamin Faleye and Ayomikun Aluko, respectively, said the call for a probe had become imperative in the interest of accountability, justice, and institutional integrity.
According to the statement, “serious allegations were brought against the Vice Chancellor, Professor Abayomi Sunday Fasina, including sexual harassment and victimisation of a member, staff intimidation and creating hostile work environments, and abuse of office, thus undermining confidence in the university leadership.
It reads, “Part of the allegations also include administrative recklessness and a lack of accountability. Members also demanded a probe into the university’s finances under his tenure to ensure transparency and accountability.
“Members strongly opposed the placement of teaching staff into non-teaching roles, describing it as a deviation from standard university practices. They called for immediate action to reverse such appointments to uphold administrative structure and integrity.
“The Congress urged the university management to implement the Governing Council’s decisions on outstanding allowances without further delay.
“The congress called on the university’s governing council and other relevant authorities to take urgent action and intervene swiftly by addressing these issues in order to restore harmony, uphold institutional integrity, and safeguard staff and students, “the statement added.
The association also affirmed that it is ready to tender an audio recording of the alleged sexual harassment against the VC should the Governing Council and relevant authorities institute a probe into the development.
SSANU, however, expressed appreciation for the redeployed Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Council, Engineer K.O. Ojo, acknowledging his “exemplary leadership, transparency, and contributions to institutional growth during his brief but eventful tenure.
