The Deputy Senate President, Senator Barau Jibril, has pledged to support the communities in southern Katsina State who have been striving to create their own state, which they have named Karaduwa, out of the present Katsina State.
Senator Barau announced this in Funtua at the weekend during the launch of the Ramadan food items and empowerment facilities distribution to orphans and less privileged men and women in the Funtua zone, an annual event organised by Senator Muntari Dan-dutse, the senator representing Katsina South zone in the Senate.
The Deputy Senate President said new states are created for economic and social development, facilitating the growth of a country. For this reason, he stands by the southern communities in their decades-old struggle.
“I am among the people studying the constitution. If it is reviewed, and the creation of new states is approved, I assure you, I will support my colleague in this demand. I will not only support you, but I will make sure that among the states to be created, Karaduwa is in the lead.”
He said Senator Dandutse never rests in the chamber whenever an issue concerning the north is raised, let alone issues concerning his electorate.
“He is a good representative who always stands by the demands of his people. I therefore urge you to vote for him again for the second time, third time, and on and on.”
Earlier in his speech, Senator Mintari Dandutse recalled how he was elected as the chairman of Funtua for three terms, a member of the House of Representatives for four terms, and now a Senator.
He said, “I was voted and elected by my people because I served them diligently.” He recalled the projects he initiated, such as building new schools, markets, and empowerment ventures for both women and the youth, with a view to solving the problem of unemployment.
Senator Dandutse said that now, as the Senator representing Funtua, he has left a legacy.
“I spearheaded and played a vital role in the creation of the Federal University of Health Sciences, which is going to take off in September 2025. Myself and Governor Dikko Umar Radda have left a legacy because the Governor, in his wisdom, cited the university in my hometown, Funtua.
“In the 2024 budget, 3 billion naira was allocated for the project, and in the 2025 budget, an amount of 5.7 billion naira was earmarked for the project.”
Dandutse said he has also worked to see that Funtua has been made an agro-free zone. He said an agreement has already been signed between Nigeria and the Republics of Niger and Chad for the use of Funtua dry port, which he said will be of great benefit to the country.
