Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Tambuwal, has paid all the outstanding backlog of uncleared state students registration fees of previous years up to 2020 to the tune of nine hundred million naira (N900,000,000 million) to Usmanu Danfodiyo University and Sokoto State University.
The governor also disclosed that those verified by the Board recently for the 2021 academic session from the two institutions and Shehu Shagari College of Education will soon be settled.
In a similar vein the governor has directed and approved the visitation, assessment and verification of all fresh and continued Sokoto State students in other tertiary institutions within the state and across the country from 2019 to 2021 academic session
The exercise which is expected to commence soonest will ensure the refund of registration fees to all verified and cleared students at the end of the exercise.
This is contained in a statement signed and made available to newsmen in Sokoto by the Information and Public Relations Officer of the Sokoto state Scholarships board, Isa Abubakar Shuni.
According to the statement, recently, the State government has sponsored 100 students to study science-based and Paramedical courses at Al-Istikama University in Kano. The programme will cost the State government the sum of One hundred and eleven million naira (N111, 000,000) annually which includes payment of tuition and registration fees, accommodations and monthly upkeep of thirty thousand naira (N30,000) to each of the students.
The students were since conveyed to Kano through the air due to the prevailing security situation in the zone , after a flag-off ceremony performed by the state governor with an appeal to them to pay attention to their studies.
Accordingly, the state government has approved the release of another twenty-two million five hundred thousand naira (N22,500,000) for the payment of registration fees and purchase of one set of computer laptops to each of the forty-six students to pursue one-year mandatory professional course at Law School, Abuja.
The Executive Chairman of the Sokoto State Scholarship Board, Honourable Altine Shehu Kajiji, added that the Governor has also approved the payment of all the outstanding fees for the remaining State Students in Crescent University, Abeokuta as well as french Students of Nigerian French Language College in Badagry, Lagos State.
Kajiji expressed the State government commitment to ensure that all outstanding fees for the state students sponsored by the Tambuwal led administration will be paid before the handover in 2023.
While assuring the state government desire to provide enough and qualified manpower especially in the area of health sector in the state, Kajiji appealed to the state-sponsored students both within and outside the country to continue to reciprocate the government huge investment in their education by rededicating to their studies and maintain the good culture of Sokoto State and to come back home after their studies to contribute their quota in the state.
