Sokoto gov commends Igala community for choosing new leader in Kogi

Sokoto State Governor, Ahmed Aliyu, has commended the Igala people of Kogi State, residents of Sokoto, for selecting Alhaji Mohammed Ibrahim as their new leader.

The governor, in a goodwill message delivered after the coronation of Alhaji Muhammed Ibrahim as the 2nd Sokoto Onu Igala, described him as a champion of peace and national unity.

Represented by Hajiya Maryam Mass, the Special Adviser on Resident Communities and IDPs, the governor praised the Igala community for making a wise decision in choosing Alhaji Mohammed Ibrahim.

“I offer my heartfelt congratulations to the newly turbaned Onu of Igala in Sokoto, Alhaji Mohammed Ibrahim. This choice by the Igalas serves as a testament to his promotion of unity, respect, and love.”

The governor added, “The new Onu Igala in Sokoto is a leader and champion of peace. May this coronation inspire all of us to work together to promote peaceful coexistence, patriotism, and respect for traditional institutions.”

Earlier, the Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, while officiating the turbaning of the new Onu Igala, appealed for mutual understanding among Nigerians. The Sultan, represented by the Ciroman Sokoto, Alhaji Aliyu, officially declared Alhaji Muhammed Ibrahim as the 2nd Onu (Sarkin) Igala in Sokoto State.

Senator Aliyu Wamakko, represented by Alkali Buhari Gidadawa, the Sardauna Nakasari, praised the newly coronated Onu Igala for his high reputation, describing him as a lover of peace and a person of great humility.

“I appointed him as my Special Adviser on Resident Communities when I was governor because he is always with the people,” Wamakko said. “I am pleased that the same leadership qualities I saw in him then still continue to this day, which is why he became the choice of his people.”

At a reception held at the 8th Division Army Officers’ Mess and Suites, the chairman of the occasion, Alhaji Aliyu Umar Onuche, emphasised that the newly turbaned Onu Igala is a man who always prioritises the people above himself.

Onuche expressed optimism that the Igala community in Sokoto would greatly benefit from the leadership prowess of Muhammed Ibrahim.

Dignitaries at the reception included Chief Barrister Jacob Ochidi SAN, Chairman of the Association of Resident Communities in Sokoto (ARCOS); Olubumi Dare, President of the Idoma Development Association; and representatives from the Gbagi, Igede, Plateau, and Yoruba communities.
