The oldest socio-philanthropic and surviving students’ organisation in Sub-Saharan Africa, Sigma Club of the University of Ibadan, is set to host the first Sigmites’ reunion for its honourary members on July 14, 2018, at the Metropolitan Club, Victoria Island, Lagos, at 5.00 pm.
The 68-year-old club is widely famous for its annual musical concert, the Havana Carnival, made popular by the likes of King Sunny Ade, Dr Victor Olaiya, Fela Anikulapo Kuti, Sir Victor Uwaifor, Junior & Pretty, Lagbaja, Bobby Benson, among several others.
Others, who have performed at the recently held editions, were Ruggedman, Seun Kuti, Sir Shina Peters, Olamide, Iyanya, Sound Sultan, etc.
Sigma club is also known for its philanthropic activities, especially to motherless babies homes and the provision of scholarship for the needies.

Dr Chevalier Uduimo Itsueli, OON is the chairman of Dubril Oil & Gas company limited, is the chairman of the day, a press release by Ola-Williams Olaoluwa, made available to Saturday Tribune stated.
As part of its membership categories, the Club admits gentlemen who were not privileged to attend the University of Ibadan or were not opportuned to join the Club as undergraduates, but have distinguished themselves in the society to be worthy of the Sigma Roll of Honour in good character, discipline and integrity. They also serve as exemplars and mentors to Loyal Sigmites – male undergraduates of U.I. who are current members of the Club.
According to the Committee Chairman of the reunion, Loyalist Ngwu Samuel, “Sigma Club has since admitted 44 gentlemen into the Club as Honorary Sigmites, with Mr. Nathaniel Adamolekun being the first in 1965.
“The reunion shall have in attendance the 22 living Honorary Sigmites, the families of so honoured deceased , women of distinction, Loyal Sigmites and Old Sigmites, as well as prominent personalities and dignitaries,” he said.
“The event is to bring together all the Honorary Sigmites and women conferred with the special Sigma Award of “Women of Distinction” for fraternal interaction, and for greater repositioning of the Club in its philanthropic, social and intellectual gestures,” he added.
