The Chairman, Senate Committee on Defense, Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko will establish the first private University in Sokoto Axis (Sokoto, Kebbi and Zamfara States), in the North western region.
Senator Wamakko made the disclosure when he picked the ten Copies of Forms for the establishment of Private University called, “The NorthWest University of Science,” at the National Universities Commission’s Secretariat (NUC), in Abuja, on 22nd August 2019.
This is contained in a statement signed by the special assistant, media and publicity to the Senator, Bahir Rabe Mani, and released to journalists in Sokoto.

He said that the whole axis has no single private University to cater to a large number of students seeking university education.
The former Sokoto state Governor further stated that he had successfully defended his Ph.D. Thesis in Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, not to seek for any academic position in future, but to inspire the younger generation.
He, however, expressed his gratitude to the NUC for the unflinching support during his tenure in office as a Sokoto State Governor when he established the Sokoto State University.
He said, “I operated a free and compulsory education system in Sokoto State during my two terms in office as Governor”
Earlier in his welcome address, the NUC Executive Secretary, Prof. Abubakar Rasheed, lamented the lack of private University in Sokoto axis to cater for the need of the teaming populace who are willing to subscribe for the University education.
He also commended the Senator for establishing the University with a view to uplifting the standard of education in the area and the entire nation, while noting that, it is not profit-oriented.
