Senator Shehu Sani has faulted former Jigawa State Governor Sule Lamido over the latter’s criticism of the performance of the National Security Adviser (NSA), Nuhu Ribadu, in addressing the security challenges confronting Nigerians.
Lamido, who criticised Ribadu on his X handle, dismissed him as an NSA who has abandoned his primary responsibility of seeking solutions to security challenges.
Instead, he accused Ribadu of reducing himself to “Tinubu’s Minister of Information instead of NSA.”
Lamido reminded the NSA of his current role working with President Tinubu, whom he once described as a corrupt politician during his tenure as Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). He stressed that Ribadu was not conducting himself professionally in office like his predecessors.
Lamido wrote: “Late Umar Shinkafi, Gen Abdullahi Mohammed, late Rafindadi, Sama’ila Gwarzo, Gen. Aliyu Gusau, and Gen. Sarki Mukhtar, Col. Dasuki and Gen. Monguno.
“These are those I can recollect, and they all share something in common. They were all mature professionals, disciplined, competent, and not loquacious, above all anonymous, and were never flippant. They were all very thorough because they never had a moral problem.
“The current National Security Advisor understandably has a moral problem, which is a huge burden to carry.”
Senator Sani, in his appraisal of the security challenges, however, maintained that the NSA’s office under Mallam Nuhu Ribadu has achieved a lot, unlike his predecessors under the Muhammadu Buhari administration.
According to the lawmaker, bandits have been neutralised to a large extent. He declared that words of encouragement should have been ideal rather than vilification.
He said: “Neutralisation of top bandit leaders, end to mass abductions of students in northern schools,
“Securing rail lines and major northern highways hitherto notorious for kidnappings. The prompt response to terrorist attacks on power lines is worth mentioning. Security challenges are not over, but in all indices of comparison, he has performed better and set unprecedented records. His political critics are fully entitled to their views, but his delivery on his mandate is unparalleled.”
