Parents across Kebbi State have again been called upon to enrol their children and wards into primary schools to enable them benefits from the nutrition and health benefits which their children tend to enjoy while in school.
To this end, the federal government has begun biometric capturing of 339,642 pupils to scale up implementation of the National Home Grown School Feeding Programme (NHGSFP) in the state.
The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Hajia Sadiya Farouq who was represented by the Principal Administrative director in the Ministry, Alhaji Attahiru Aminu Zagga, stated this at the flag-off of the enumeration exercise in Birnin-Kebbi.
Zagga said the aim of the exercise is to ensure that every single child in the country has access to education by providing at least one square meal a day to motivate parents to enrol their children.
He stated further that “currently, we have 9 million pupils enrolled and we are expecting to increase the enrollment to 10 million pupils nationwide as directed by President Buhari.”
National Youth Service Corps Members according to him will handle registration exercises in 13 Local Government Areas of Kebbi State while personnel of the agency would conduct the remaining eight Local Government Areas that have security challenges in the state.
“This exercise was specifically targeted to reach out to vulnerable Nigerians, Widows, poorest of the poor, and encourage parents to enrol their children and wards in schools,” he added.
The Administrative Officer, therefore, called on parents across the state who are yet to enrol their children to avail themselves of the opportunity to do so to enable them to benefit from the programme since education is believed to be the bedrock of every society.
