On Tuesday, Lagos State Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, assured manufacturers of his administration’s resolve to improve the country’s business environment.
He made this assurance during the completion ceremony of the first 2,000 vehicles assembled by GAC Motors in Lagos. Governor Sanwo-Olu praised CIG Motors, a Chinese indigenous car manufacturing entity, for their diligent efforts and described the assembly of these 2,000 vehicles on Lagos soil as a significant achievement.
Governor Sanwo-Olu stated, “I stand before you today, filled with immense pride and optimism as we celebrate a monumental achievement in the industrious heart of Lagos. Our vibrant city now hosts a thriving hub of automotive excellence, thanks to the diligent efforts of CIG Motors, a commendable Chinese indigenous car manufacturing entity.
Today, we applaud their remarkable milestone of assembling 2,000 vehicles right here on Lagos soil. This accomplishment is a testament to their expertise and a reflection of the promising synergy between international partnerships and local talent.”
He emphasised that such collaborations drive sustainable economic growth in a rapidly globalising world. According to the governor, the establishment of CIG Motors in the state demonstrates Lagos’ openness to investments that promote job creation, skill development, wealth creation, and entrepreneurial opportunities.
Governor Sanwo-Olu called this milestone a solid step toward making Lagos a hub of industrialization and innovation.
He highlighted the role of international partnerships and a conducive business environment in advancing economic prosperity and societal development.
He further assured, “On our part, we shall continue to find ways to support your growth and that of other private sector players.
Through business-friendly regulations, provision of infrastructure, and investments in quality technical education to produce a world-class workforce, we are committed to ensuring that Lagos remains the first choice for business in Nigeria and across the West African landscape.”
Governor Sanwo-Olu pointed out that this milestone represents multi-sectoral progress that will benefit Lagosians in various ways, extending beyond the automotive sector.
He emphasised the employment opportunities created for the youth, significantly reducing Lagos State’s unemployment rates.
Additionally, the LagRide scheme exclusively utilizes the GS3 SUV and GA4 Saloon cars assembled in the state, offering passengers comfort while promoting locally produced vehicles to global standards.
Governor Sanwo-Olu also acknowledged the skill transfer and technical training programs initiated by CIG Motors, empowering many unemployed individuals with the skills necessary to thrive in today’s competitive job market.
