The National Police Day is designed to celebrate the dedication, sacrifices, and achievements of the Nigeria Police Force in ensuring national security.
It provides a platform to recognize the Force’s pivotal role in safeguarding lives and property while reinforcing public trust and collaboration in maintaining law and order.
The celebration also pays tribute to our fallen heroes—police officers who have demonstrated exceptional dedication, even to the point of paying the supreme price by laying down their lives for the protection of the nation while in the line of duty.
The event commenced with the Area Commander of the Sango Ota Police Command, ACP Shola Oladele, leading a team of police officers and men on a sanitation exercise to keep the environment clean and also educate members of the public on the need for proper and regular sanitary practices.
A school outreach was also carried out to educate students on obeying laws and being orderly, while shunning societal vices and crime.
At a town hall meeting with residents, community leaders, and indigenes of Sango Ota, ACP Shola Oladele emphasized the need for a close police-community relationship to safeguard the people and ensure they can rely on the police at any given time for security and protection. She urged them to have a better perception of the police as their friend and not as a security outfit that disregards the rights of the people.
A high-powered stakeholders’ meeting took place at the Area Command, involving several security agencies, traditional rulers, and other key stakeholders to explore ways of bridging police-community relations and maintaining a working relationship.
A rigorous sports drill was held for the officers and men of the Command as part of their fitness and health routine.
The Area Commander in charge of the Sango Area Command, ACP Shola Oladele, thanked the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, for reaffirming the Force’s commitment to professional excellence and public service.
She also commended the AIG Zone 2, AIG Adegoke Fayoade, for his resilience and tenacity in leading the police commands of Ogun and Lagos States, and the Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Police Command, CP Lanre Ogunlowo, for his able leadership in overseeing all commands in the state.
Earlier, the IGP called on Nigerians to join in celebrating the gallant officers of the Nigeria Police Force and their immense contributions to national security. The National Police Day stands as a testament to the resilience, dedication, and courage of police personnel and serves as an inspiration for future generations to uphold the highest ideals of service and integrity.
