The Rotary Club of Akoka has called for continued collaboration to sustain peace-driven initiatives that keep schools safe for learning and personal growth.
This call was made at a transformative workshop on peacebuilding held for educators in Lagos.
The workshop, themed “Educators as Catalysts for Peacebuilding,” was held in Education Districts II, IV, and VI in collaboration with the Rotaract Club of Medilag Golden and PeaceJam Nigeria.
During the program, over a hundred teachers were equipped with knowledge and skills to promote peace and discourage violence in their respective schools.
Speaking at the event, Rtn. (Dr.) Doyin Ogunyemi, President of the Rotary Club of Akoka, emphasized the crucial role of educators in shaping a peaceful society.
According to her, the workshop aimed to build peace and establish strategies for fostering a culture of peace within the educational system.
She stated, “Teachers are not just instructors; they are role models, mentors, and agents of change. The event also featured fun team-building activities that strengthened key peacebuilding concepts such as active listening.”
Secretary of the Rotary Club of Akoka, Rtn. Osho Olasunkanmi, emphasized the club’s commitment to peace-oriented education, stating, “It is easy to start a war but difficult to talk peace.”
One of the participants, Mrs. Lillian Onyeje, shared how the Rotary Club of Akoka’s peace initiatives have positively influenced her school.
She said, “This program has imbued in me the skills to effectively address conflicts in my classroom. I feel more confident in guiding my students toward peaceful solutions.”
