Rotary Club of Ibadan Gold, on Tuesday, donated clothing items, kitchen utensils and food items, including rice, spaghetti, indomie to the residents of Apanpa village in Akufo in Ido Local Government Area of Oyo State.
The Baale of Apanpa village, Chief Rasaki Adebayo, has commended Rotary Club of Ibadan Gold for celebrating Independence Day with residents of the village and extending its hand of goodwill.
The Baale, on behalf of the community, commended Rotary Club for the gesture, which he claimed they had never received before in the village.
He said: “Nobody has done anything like this for us and we’ve not seen something like this before; we thank Rotary Club of Ibadan Gold for doing this great thing for us, we’ll proclaim them to the world forever,”
President of the club, Oyewole Fashina while speaking on the motive behind the gesture, said, it is to put smile on the faces of the people and make them feel a sense of belonging in celebration of Nigeria’s Independence Day.
He said, “We’re celebrating Independence Day and we’re also celebrating community development in Rotary Club.
“The gesture is just to create a bond with residents of Apanpa village so they can feel the mood of celebrating the Independence Day.”
Fasina, also encouraged other philanthropical societies to emulate what Rotary Club is doing, by putting smile on the faces of the people.
“For other philanthropical societies also, they should emulate what Rotary is doing. Rotary has been doing good all over the world from ages. Let them also emulate that and do more of philanthropical work and reach out to the underprivileged,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Project Chair of the club, Oluwaremilekun Ajagbe, advised people to show love to individuals in need around them.
“I’ll like to tell others out there that those little things you’re keeping in your house that you have excess, there are some people that are in dire need of it, please once in a while let’s go out there let’s share love so that Nigeria can be a better place,” she said.
