Rotary Club of Ibadan Gold on Saturday donated a borehole and a power generator to Araromi Community, Apata, Ibadan to have access to potable drinking water.
According to the President of the Club, Mr Wale Bogunjoko, the donation is based on an earlier need assessment carried out in the community by the club on the challenges facing the Araromi community and its environs.
Bogunjoko revealed that after the need assessment, it was discovered that the community lacked water. The club then met with the community leaders and the discussion of sinking a borehole commenced.
“After the need assessment and meeting with various stakeholders in the Araromi community, we embarked on the project under the supervision of the club service project committee. We thank God we can complete the project which is being commissioned today.
“You can see the quality of the project which is worth millions of naira with a generating set for the powering of the pumping machine.”
He advised the community leaders to maintain the project to motivate them to do more.
“I’m happy we can complete this project and put smiles on the faces of the members of the Araromi community because they are all happy with the project which they have been craving over the years. The commissioning coincides with the rotary international month theme which is water and sanitation month.
“My advice to them is to maintain it and see it as their project even though our project monitoring team will still be checking on them to ensure proper maintenance,” Bogunjoko said.
Speaking on behalf of the community, Mr Ojo Egbeniyi thanked the Rotary for the gesture while urging politicians to emulate what Rotary did for their community despite their failed promises.
He said Rotary did not collect anything from them before the project was completed.
“We are really glad for this donor by Rotary Club and we would not mind joining their Club because they surprise us. This is a humanitarian service and they are not expecting anything in return, I must commend them for the job well done to our community.
“I believe they will monitor the project and maintain it to encourage the club to provide more support to our community.
“To our politicians, I will advise them to always fulfil their electioneering campaign because it’s better not to promise than to promise and not fulfil.”
Also, the representatives of the District Governor, Mr Soji Sangodoyin who commissioned the project said they provide service to communities in their various needs.
He said the donation was based on an earlier assessment by the Club and “Today you can see that we have met your needs even though none of our members is living here but for the benefit of humankind.”
