In an effort to clamp down on revenue leakages, the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), through its Directorate of Road Transport Services (DRTS), has introduced paperless booking and e-biling for vehicles in the Federal Capital City.
Dr. Abdulateef Bello, Director of the Directorate of Road Traffic Services (DRTS), commonly known as VIO, announced this development during a training session on the newly introduced paperless booking and e-billing system for the agency’s operational staff in Abuja on Wednesday.
The move is aimed at curbing revenue leakages, enhancing transparency, and improving the efficiency of the traffic management system. The introduction of e-ticketing will initially begin in the city centre due to the high traffic volume, with plans to extend it to the suburbs in the coming days.
Dr. Bello elaborated on the system, highlighting its features that will allow offenders to appeal or protest unsatisfactory bookings, promoting fairness and addressing discrepancies.
He stated, “This evolution will empower DRTS officers to provide the public with seamless, efficient, and transparent services. The new paperless system reflects our commitment to harnessing cutting-edge technology to serve our community with unparalleled efficiency and integrity while eliminating the challenges posed by the continued use of the manual system. It will also aid in the management of fines and ticketing systems while minimizing revenue losses. This system will maintain a comprehensive record of all transactions, ensuring that all government dues are duly collected and accounted for.”
Furthermore, the system will offer convenient payment options for offenders, improving the overall experience for those engaging with the services. It will provide easy access to penalty records from various endpoints, complete with a historical audit trail and other related data analytics, ensuring accountability and well-informed decision-making.
The training session was attended by operational staff from all twenty-two commands of the Federal Capital Territory Directorate of Road Traffic Services (DRTS).
