The House of Representatives, on Tuesday, resumed plenary session from the Christmas and New year break with an assurance by the Speaker, Femi Gbajabiamila, that the House would revisit the Electoral Amendment Bill rejected by President Muhammadu Buhari.

Addressing the opening session of the plenary, Gbajabiamila who stated that the House has taken judicial notice of Mr President’s concerns for not assenting the Bill assured that the “House will reintroduce the amendment on Wednesday  and will work quickly to address the mitigating concerns, pass the bill and send it back to His Excellency President Muhammadu Buhari for assent.”

According to him, “this would have been the singular most significant reform of our political primary party system in a generation.

“I remain convinced that the proposal for direct primary elections is valuable for building accountability in our political system.

“But we must not allow the perfect to be the enemy of the good. Therefore. the House will reintroduce the amendment on Wednesday.”
