THE House of Representatives on Tuesday resolved to probe the killings of seven Policemen who were killed in Abuja by unknown gunmen at their duty post along with nine civilians.
This followed the adoption of the motion moved by Hon Chris Emeka Azubogu titled “urgent National Security Attention on the killing of Seven Policemen and others by unknown gunmen in Galadimawa, Abuja, amongst other killings in the country ” at the plenary yesterday.
The House also resolved to set an Ad-hoc Committee to determine the rising phenomena of insecurity In the country occasioned by killings all over the Federation, proffer solutions and report back to the House within six weeks for further legislative action.
In addition, the House resolved to invite the Commissioner of Police of the Federal Capital Territory , FCT, Abuja, Command, CP Sadiq Bello to brief it on the way forward to enable it to take an informed decision on the pathetic insecurity situation in the Country.
Hon Azubogu while leading the debate worried that the attack was coming too close after the Plateau killings and others in the country which have been reported in the immediate past to which government was confronting internally and doing everything possible to contain the fall out in terms of national security concerns and image management of the country to the international environment.

According to him,” these killings now call to question the internal security management of securing the lives and property of the citizens by the government as provided in the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
“There is a need to reinvigorate the security apparatus of the country to better secure the lives and property of the people”.
Contributing to the debate, Hon Olusegun Odebunmi lamented the increasing cases of insecurity in the country, saying, “The civilians are no longer safe. If Abuja cannot be safe at this level, how will other States be?”.
The lawmaker expressed worries on the neglect of Close Circuit Television Cameras (CCTV) in parts of Abuja and called on the House to summon the Minister in Charge of the FCT for him to come around and brief the lawmakers on why they were not in use.
In her own contribution, Hon Ayo Omidiran called for the need for urgent step to be taken in order to get to the root of the killing to halt the spread of the killings to other states of the Federation.
Recalled that on July the 2nd, 2018, seven policemen attached to the Federal Capital Territory Police Command on duty at Galadimawa area of Abuja were killed at their duty post while many passersby were wounded in an attack by unknown gunmen numbering over a dozen on six motorbikes.
