Reps okay North East Development Commission Bill for third reading

The House of Representatives on Wednesday passed for third reading a bill that sought to establish the North East Development Commission.

The commission when established would be charged with the responsibility of, among other things, receiving and managing funds allocated by the federal government and international donors for the re-settlement, rehabilitation, integration and reconstruction of roads, houses and bussiness premises of victims of insurgency and terrorism.

The commission is also expected to tackle the menace of poverty, illiteracy, Ecological problems and any other related Environmental or developmental challenges in the North East.

The House also passed for third reading a bill for an Act to amend the deep offshore and Inland basin production sharing contracts.

Also, a bill for an Act to provide for the protection, promotion and maintenance of health, for proper sanitation in matters relating to housing, food amd generally the protection of the environment and control of services and activities.
