As Muslims all over the world look forward to the end of the holy month of Ramadan, the Chief Imam of Gateway Central Mosque, Sango Otta, Ogun State, Sheikh Abdul Ganiyy Owoade Ayegbajeje, has charged Nigerians to seek peace in the face of adversity, saying that the spate of insecurity coupled with the economic situation in Nigeria should be enough to strengthen the faith of Muslims across the country.
Sheikh Ayegbajeje made the call at this year’s Ramadan lecture, organised by the Alimosho chapter of the Oodua Peoples Congress (OPC) under the leadership of Alhaji Adewale Hamzat, who is also the Akinrogun Aare Onakakanfo of Yorubaland.
In his sermon, Ayegbajeje noted that the holy month of Ramadan is for the Muslims to move closer to Allah, insisting that the best way to live was to impact society, as he cited various Quranic verses to buttress his sermons.
“We thank the Alimosho chapter of the OPC for organizing this lecture, as part of its annual programme. All of us should seek peace in the face of adversity.
“Nigeria needs peace to confront the various challenges in the country. That is the best way to solve the various problems in the country,” the cleric said.
Hamzat, who is the Coordinator General of Alimosho Local Government, in his speech, said efforts were on to change the course of history in Nigeria, assuring that OPC under the leadership of Aare Onakakanfo of Yoruba land, Iba Gani Adams, was determined to ensure peace and tranquillity in Nigeria being its aims and objectives.
The OPC chieftain flayed those behind the various social media attacks on Adams, describing them as social media parasites and cowards.
The Akinrogun, however, insisted that no amount of attack would change the positive image Nigerians both home and abroad had about the Yoruba generalissimo.
“Let me restate the fact that it is the OPC’s aims and objectives to preach and ensure peace in Yoruba land. It is also our responsibility to fight for the interest of the Yoruba both at home and abroad.
“In doing our sacred duties as an organisation, I urge the Federal Government to look inward in addressing the security challenges in the country.
“From his background, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has all it takes to change the narratives of this country. The security challenges in Yoruba land is a major challenge that must be tackled headlong.
“OPC is blessed with over six million members that are ready to secure Yorubaland. We are ready to go all out to salvage the situation.
“We have made a remarkable impact in the past and we are still doing everything that is possible to protect the interest of the Yoruba across the Southwest and beyond.
“The OPC is spiritual in nature. God has also blessed the organization, making it one of the most vibrant organizations in Nigeria.
“Under the aegis of the OPC is the Olokun Festival Foundation (OFF) a non-governmental organization that promotes Yoruba cultures and traditions by celebrating over 30 festivals across the southwest,” he said.
Speaking further, Hamzat equally raised the hope that the Yoruba would one day appreciate the efforts of Iba Adams, saying that he had remained a blessing to the Yoruba race.
“Whether we believe it or not, Iba Gani Adams will continue to be the shining light of our race, and I have a strong feeling that in the future,” he said.
