Ramadan: Embrace values of compassion, generosity, Sanwo-Olu charges Muslims

Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has felicitated all Muslim faithful as they commence the holy month of Ramadan on Saturday, urging Nigerians, particularly residents, to be compassionate and generous to one another during the fasting season.

Governor Sanwo-Olu, while making the call as the Chief Host at the Special Ramadan Prayer held at the Lagos House Mosque Ground, Ikeja, described Ramadan as a sacred month and a time for deep reflection, renewed faith, and acts of kindness.

He said the commencement of the Muslim fasting season, which started on March 1, coinciding with the first day of a new month, and Christians’ Lenten season, which starts from Wednesday, March 5, noting that it was a double coincidence and, therefore, urged people to live in peace and harmony.

“Ramadan Kareem to all our Muslim brothers and sisters. This sacred month is a time for deep reflection, renewed faith, and acts of kindness. May your fasting and prayers bring you peace, prosperity, and abundant blessings.

“As we embrace the values of compassion, unity, and generosity, let us uplift one another and extend love to those in need. Lagos is a home for all, and in this season of devotion, we pray for continued progress and harmony in our state and beyond,” the governor said.

Speaking further, Governor Sanwo-Olu urged Lagosians to ensure that the period of the season reflects in relationship among ourselves, saying that it is a season in which people needed to admonish and encourage themselves in their faith.

“The period of the season reflects in our relationship among ourselves.

“Ramadan is a period of holiness. It is a period in which people need to admonish and encourage themselves in their faith. It is a period where people are in constant conversation with God.

“As a people, we need to continue to ensure that we live in the peace and harmony that Lagos is known for. This is a time that we all need to come together in prayers and supplications. It is a time for us to do the right thing.

“Coincidentally, March 1 is the first of a new month, and Christian faithful will also start their fasting next week Wednesday (March 5). So, we all need to live in peace and harmony.

“Let the period of the season reflect in our relationship among ourselves. Let the essence of the season be what holds us together as a people by doing our very best at all times,” he added.
