Rainstorm throws Bauchi into total darkness

FOLLOWING last Saturday whirlwind and rainstorm which destroyed over 300 electricity poles, residents of Bauchi metropolis and environs have been thrown into total darkness.

Bauchi Regional Director of Jos Electricity Distribution Company (JEDC), Hafiz Sale Hassan stated this Monday while briefing newsmen on how the disaster will affect the services of the company in Bauchi and environs.

The Regional Director who was represented by the Technical Director of the Company, Engineer Abdullahi Hussaini said that apart from electric poles, other equipment like Armoured and Aluminium Cables, Insulators, Communication Masts among others were badly affected by the windstorm.

“My office is currently preparing a report which will be sent to the national headquarters of the company for further executive management attention and necessary action”, he said.

Hafiz Hassan who called on community and religious leaders as well as the general public to guard the electrical gadgets in their areas from vandals, said that some undesirable elements in the society may use such opportunity to vandalize the equipment.

He however assured residents of Bauchi metropolis and environs that the company was working tirelessly to restore back power supply as soon as possible.

Meanwhile, Bauchi State Council of Jama’atu Nasril Islam (JNI), under the chairmanship of the Emir of Bauchi, Alhaji (Dr) Rilwanu Suleiman Adamu has commiserated with the entire people of the state on the two calamities that befell the State following the devastating heavy rainstorm that hit Bauchi and its environs a day after Eid Fitr and the Azare central Market fire disaster.

JNI prayed Allah to forgive all those that died in the disasters and replace the loss of those who lost valuables.

JNI, therefore, called on all relevant agencies to come to the aid of the affected people just as it used the unique opportunity to, as usual, remind Muslims to remain God-fearing, steadfast and be law-abiding always.
