Qatar to build 500,000 mega city, mass housing estate for Kaduna residents

The Governor of Kaduna State governor, Uba Sani has lauded the Embassy of Qatar and the Qatari-owned Sanabil project for choosing to build a 500,000 mega economic city and mass housing estate for vulnerable and underserved residents of the state.

In his remarks during the groundbreaking ceremony at millennium city, the governor noted that “The Economic City will provide world class infrastructure and make Kaduna a reference point in modern and affordable accommodation with adequate security and a conducive atmosphere for business activities.”

According to him, “the economic city will facilitate international trade while serving as a platform for local entrepreneurs and traders.

“In the economic city, there will be houses for the poor, clinics, shops, poultry farms, farmlands for the rainy season and irrigation farming.”

Sani added that the mass housing project was a major contribution towards providing shelter for the poor, underserved and vulnerable in Kaduna state, as it supports KDSG’s interventions in the housing sector over the years.

“The choice of Kaduna state as the location for such a mega project is an indication that this administration’s drive for investments is yielding results.

“Our vision is to make Kaduna the leading economic hub in the North. We want to create a business cluster that will drive competition in the Northern region.

“Kaduna state is rich in natural and human resources. It is the gateway to many parts of Nigeria. It is a transportation hub. The immediate past government worked assiduously to upgrade the infrastructure in the state. We are determined to build on that legacy to fast-track the economic development of the state,” Sani reiterated.

While commending the governor for his support and cooperation towards the success of the Qatar Sanabil Project in Kaduna State, Qatar Ambassador to Nigeria, Dr. Ali Bin Ghanem Al-Hajri stated that the Qatari Charity had also pledged various interventions and empowerment programmes for Kaduna’s poor and underserved.

“These include scholarships for orphans and children of the poor, distribution of sewing machines, welding machines , irrigation pumping machines, salon kits, and drilling of hundreds of boreholes across the 23 local governments of Kaduna State.”

He said the Qatar Sanabil Project is a multi-million dollar project that will impact positively the lives of over 500,000 poor, underserved and vulnerable residents of Kaduna State.
