Cleaners undertaking cleaning of the office complex of the Minister of Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and other agencies and departments within the administration, on Monday, staged a protest over non-payment of salary arrears owed them by the administration.
They arrived the main building housing the minister’s office in large numbers to demand for payments and berated the FCT Minister, Malam Muhammad Bello and the Permanent Secretary, Dr Babatope Ajakaiye, for delaying the salaries.
The Nigerian Tribune observed that the cleaners, in protest, dropped refuse in some offices to press home their demands, threatening that they would not return to their various duty posts until the administration pays the outstanding salaries.
It was gathered from one of the protesters that the FCT administration was owing them three months.
The protest, which was the fifth by the cleaners since the inception of the current FCT administration, attracted sympathy and solidarity from some staff of the administration ,who expressed sadness with the way the administration was being run and starved of funds.
