The Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, has urged Local Government Chairmen to prioritize the protection of public infrastructure within their jurisdictions.
This charge was revealed by the State Commissioner for Information and Communications, Mr Kingsley Fanwo, during a briefing with newsmen following an Extraordinary State Executive Council Meeting in Lokoja.
The Governor expressed his disappointment in the vandalism of public infrastructure by hoodlums and emphasized that such acts would no longer be tolerated.
“The unfortunate and unwarranted vandalization of our broadcasting facilities at Ochaja is disheartening. The Governor is disappointed by this senseless destruction and has instructed Council Chairmen to enhance security measures around public infrastructure in their respective areas,” stated Fanwo.
Furthermore, the Governor called on law enforcement agencies to thoroughly investigate the vandalism at Ochaja Broadcasting Corporation and bring the perpetrators to justice. He expressed confidence in the ability of law enforcement agents to apprehend the “enemies of the public.”
Fanwo mentioned that the State Governor also pledged to take necessary steps to expedite the restoration of the station, ensuring it resumes broadcasting as soon as possible to continue informing the people of Kogi East.
It should be noted that a group of approximately 30 vandals had recently raided the Kogi State Broadcasting Corporation, Ochaja, stealing generators, cables, and transmitter components.
