The Chief Judge of Niger State, Justice Halima Ibrahim Abdulmalik, has initiated a pivotal visit to the Suleja Correctional Centre as part of her 25 prison decongestion initiative.
This initiative aims to allow members of the judiciary to review the cases of awaiting inmates held across correctional facilities in the state.
During her visit, which lasted nearly three hours, Justice Halima expressed satisfaction with the sanitary conditions maintained for both the inmates and the facility itself.
Her commitment to justice was evident as she reviewed approximately forty-three cases, resulting in the discharge of two inmates, while four others were tried summarily and granted bail.
The Comptroller of the Federal Capital Territory, Mr Jibogun Bosun, extended a warm welcome to Chief Judge Abdulmalik and her team, expressing gratitude for their visit.
He acknowledged the challenges posed by congestion within the centre and expressed hope that the visit would provide an opportunity to address the cases of awaiting inmates more effectively.
