Christians have been urged to always pray for the leadership of the country, so that peace, unity and tranquillity will continue to reign among the people.
The call was made by the President of the North-East Baptist Conference, Reverend Abraham Demius, in a sermon at a one-day session of prayers, at the First Baptist Church, Bauchi, last Sunday.
He admonished Christians to eschew bitterness so that their prayers will be answered by God.
Speaking on the topic, Seeking the Face of God in Times of Troubles, he said: “There’s no way God will answer our prayers, when we live with grudges, malice and hatred for one another.”
He added that at this time, what Christians needed to do was to “stand in the gap and call upon God for divine intervention. The church must not sleep now, because the country needs people who will stand in the gap.”
Earlier, the convener of the session, Reverend Babatunde Adewusi, who is the Chairman of the Pastors’ Fellowship of Antioch Baptist Association, and the Under-Sheperd of New Covenant Baptist Church, Bauchi, explained that the prayer became necessary in order to ensure that the present situation in the country did not degenerate further.
He assured that the prayer session would be held every month henceforth, and called on all Baptist Church pastors to rise up to the occasion by leading their members to always pray for peace.
