The Anambra State Police Command has paraded Mr Nonyelum Okakwu, aged 50 and his son, Master Chumezie Nwaeforu, age 13yrs for alleged involvement in child stealing at Okoti, in Ogbaru council area of Anambra State.
Another member of the same family, Mr Obiajulu Okwosa, 16 was also paraded for allegedly aiding the crime, why Mrs. Nkemdilim Okwosa, who is the 4th member of the syndicate, is still at large
The State Police Commissioner, Mr Garba Baba Umar who paraded the suspects said the suspects were arrested by the police on 17th July 2018, at about 0900hrs, when one Jude Ebiowu ‘m’ of Okoti reported at Ogbauru Division that his daughter named Nmachukwu Ebiowu female aged three years of the same address disappeared during a graduation ceremony at “The Light International School Okoti” and all efforts to find her proved abortive. However, the discreet investigation by his men yielded positive results leading to the arrest of three members of the syndicate behind series of child stealing in the state, including that of Nmachukwu Ebiowu.
The commissioner said investigation had commenced, saying that as soon as it was concluded the suspects would be charged to court.
The Commissioner further revealed that the syndicate has turned the child stealing into a family business which involved virtually all members of the same family.
He said Investigation also showed that on 22nd July 2018, the second suspect Chimezue Nwaefuru, abducted one Chrismidi Udetore aged 3yrs and took the victim to his father, who usually send him to steal children with his bicycle which he purposely bought for him to lure children with using the same bicycle.

The same suspect equally confessed to having abducted the victim Nmachukwu Ebiowu aged 3yrs from the Light International school, Okoti and handed her to his father Mr Okakwu who equally took the child to the fourth suspect Mrs Nkemdilim Okwosa of Oba Town, who is now on the run with the said child. And that the detectives attached to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department searched the house of the suspect at large and recovered four other children whose ages range from 3, 4 and 6.
The children have been taken to motherless babies’ home for safe custody. Manhunt for the 4th suspect is ongoing, he concluded.
Mr Umar, therefore urge parents whose children were either stolen or missing to report at the State CIID Awka for identification of those children already found.
Main while, the commissioner, has disclosed that he has ordered for a full-scale investigation into the circumstances surrounding the last week shootings that lead to the death of one Nonso Onyema on the 7th August 2018 at Nise, in Awka south council area, and that the police personnel involved have been arrested, defaulted and presently undergoing orderly room trial and investigation.
