Kogi State police command on Tuesday said it had arrested two suspected kidnappers who had planned to abduct a member of the state house of assembly.
The command also apprehended two suspected that specialised in motorcycle snatching and a notorious house burglar that has been terrorising the people of the state.
The commissioner of police in the command, Wilson Inalegwu, said the arrests were parts of the continued onslaught against hoodlums in the state, through proactive crime preventing strategies.
According to him, the lawmakerDekina/Biraidu state constituency, Hon Moses Ododo, had on Monday reported that unknown hoodlums were threatening him GSM phone to give them N3 million to avoid being kidnapped.
He said operatives attached to Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) swung into action and accompanied the legislator to the agreed point where money Will be dropped at Omadeni village in Dekina Local Government of Kogi State, and laid siege on the suspects.
He said, “The Operatives stormed at the suspects while coming to pick the money, and arrested the duo of Omeje Shehu and Mohammed Jibril, while others fled into the bush.
“One locally made single barrel pistol, one live cartridge and thirteen cowries were recovered from the gang. Effort is on to track down the fleeing suspects.”
In another development, men of the command attached to ‘D’ Division Lokoja arrested one Abdullahi Bello of Shettima in Lokoja Local Government of Kogi State.
Following a tip off that the suspect with others at large broke into the houses of one Emmanuel Baba and Onimi Reuben both of Zango-Daji respectively and made away with several items including one 42 inches Plasma Samsung Television valued at N40,000.00, one 32 inches LG Plasma Television valued at N37,000.00 and a cash sum of N71,000.00.
Other items recovered from the suspect were two Plasma Television set.
According to him, the suspect confessed belong to a notorious syndicate that specialises invading houses in Lokoja to rob.
Inalegwu added that the command also arrested Abdulkadir Abdulramat, Angulu Adulwajid and Oluwale Samson all of Felele in Lokoja Local Government of Kogi State over allegation of snatching of motorcycles.
The two motorcycles, two hammers and other dangerous equipments were recovered from the gang.
The Commissioner of Police reiterated the determination of the command in ensuring adequate security of lives and property in the State.
