As part of measures to ensure a peaceful atmosphere during the proposed national protest on Independence Day, security agents in Sokoto State on Monday embarked on a show of force within the metropolis.
Our correspondent, who witnessed the development, observed that the security agents, which included the Nigerian Police, Nigerian Army personnel, and Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, among other sister agencies, were involved in the exercise.
The team, in a combat-ready movement, moved from the police headquarters in the state through major roads such as Bello Way, Emir Yahya, Sahara, Maiduguri Road, and Diplomat, among others.
Meanwhile, the spokesman of the police command in the state, ASP Ahmed Rufai, reaffirmed that no group or individual had submitted any letter of intent to protest in the state to the command.
He said, “The command, with other sister security agencies in the state, decided to embark on the show of force to warn any troublemakers against causing any trouble in the state.”
He added that security agencies in the state are fully ready to ensure a peaceful atmosphere during the Independence Day celebration.
“We decided to embark on the show of force to warn anyone trying to cause trouble that Sokoto is not a place for them,” Rufai said. “Even though no group or individual submitted any letter of intent to organise any protest in the state,” he added.
