The Nigerian Police Force, Sokoto State command has confirmed that some youths in Isa local government on Wednesday burnt down the houses of the state Commissioner for Careers and Security Matters, Colonel Garba Moyi (rtd).
The command public relations officer, ASP Sanusi Abubakar, confirmed the attack while assuring that the police is currently investigating the attack.
He further disclosed that already, five persons have been arrested in connection with the incidence
Tribune Online gathered that the angry mob on Tuesday razed down the residence over alleged complicity with criminals terrorizing the area.
It was gathered that the youths in the village had earlier invited the commissioner to discuss the incessant banditry in the area in which they said the commissioner failed to honour the invitation sent to him.
The mob also vandalised vehicles belonging to the District Head of the area, Sarkin Gobir of Isa Alhaji Nasiru Ahamad for as well allegedly coniviance with criminal gangs in the area.
It was gathered the people of the area have for long been accusing the two of not showing concern to the banditry activities in the area.
Confirming the attack the Sokoto Police Command Public Relations Officer (PPRO), ASP Sanusi Abubakar said the incident happened Tuesday and that the police were investigating the matter.
However, Sanusi said no life was involved, and as soon as the investigation was completed details would be made known to the public.
Meanwhile, he appealed to the residence in the area to remain calm and cooperate with law enforcement agencies and the police to maintain the security of lives and property of the citizenry in the state.
Reacting to the ugly development, Colonel Garba Moyi, described the attacks on his property as politically motivated by his political opponents.
He said he won’t prempt anything for now as investigation is ongoing by the police on the where he said the youths went to his house overpowered the security men and burnt it down.
He, however, disclosed that no life was lost in the attack.
