The South West zone of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is billed to hold a mega rally on May 5, in Osogbo, the capital of State of Osun.
The rally, according to a communique issued at the end zonal meeting of the Extended Working Committee of the South West PDP, held in Abeokuta, on Wednesday, is to “engender brotherhood and comradeship within the party in the zone.”
It was gathered that the party’s national chairman, Uche Secondus and leadership of the party across the country will be in attendance.
The party at the meeting which was attended by the Deputy National Chairman (South West), Elder Yemi Akiwonmi, the National Vice Chairman (south), Dr. Eddy Olafeso, as well as state chairmen of the party in the zone, urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), not to meddle into the political affairs of the party in Ogun State.
Akinwonmi told the meeting that the national body of the party is not leaving any stone unturned to ensure that the status quo of leadership in Ogun remain the same.
While Olafeso said that the party had undertaken serious measures to reposition the party and called for the collective effort of its members in ensuring that the party wrest power from the ruling party in 2019.
The communiqué partly read, “That we abhor INEC’s interference in the affairs of political parties and thus declare this attitude as interloping and overbearing. This we do in view of the Supreme Court declaration on the powers of Party Convention and authority conferred on them.
“Therefore, we reject INEC’s letter to the Ogun State Executive of the Party and also solidly confirm it to be the leadership of the Party in the State, having emerged from a convention conducted and supervised by the National Executive of the Party, it is worthy of note that INEC itself attended the convention and appended signatures to the results emanating from it.
“We also seize this opportunity to call on members of the Party to place the interest of the Party above ambitions, it is our position that we all must eschew bitterness, rancor and strife in our relationship within the Party. We emphasize that there is no enemy within, but enemy without, therefore we must concentrate every energy we can muster to vanquish our rivals.”
