Members of the Kano state chapter of the Parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria( PASAN) shut down the state House Assembly on Monday to join a nationwide strike declared by the union’s national body to press home their demands
This followed the expiration of an ultimatum the union gave to the government to implement financial autonomy for the legislature.”
Making this known on Monday, the chairman of the state chapter of PASAN, Bashir Yahaya, while speaking to the press, confirmed the development
According to him,” Yes, we have joined the strike as directed by the national president of our association.
“The strike followed the expiration of an ultimatum the union gave to the government to implement financial autonomy for the legislature,” he said.
He disclosed that the strike is over the failure of the state government to implement financial autonomy for its legislative arm.
He, however, added that “The union was patient for two years after President Muhammadu Buhari signed the Financial Autonomy Act, but state governors have failed to implement it.”
Yahaya further disclosed that the association would continue the strike until their demands were met.
He then stated that the state assembly would remain closed until there was a counter-directive from the national body.
