The House of Representatives member representing Irepo/Orelope/Olorunsogo federal constituency of Oyo State, Hon. (Dr.) Prince Olaide Lateef Mohammed (POLAM), has facilitated two skill acquisition and empowerment programs for 220 members of his constituency.
In a statement, the lawmaker said the initiative was a strategic effort to drive economic empowerment, promote self-reliance, and alleviate the impact of the high cost of living in Nigeria.
Hon. Mohammed also noted that the initiative targeted youths and women across the three local government areas of the federal constituency, adding that it was part of his ongoing commitment to enhancing human capital development and fostering sustainable livelihoods within the constituency.
“The program, implemented in two strategic phases, was designed to equip participants with essential entrepreneurial skills and financial support to build sustainable livelihoods.
“Phase Two focused on entrepreneurship training and was anchored by the National Centre for Agricultural Mechanization (NCAM). It engaged 100 participants in activities aimed at cultivating a strong entrepreneurial mindset, offering practical skills in agricultural business management, and fostering long-term economic independence.
“The training was successfully concluded, with participants gaining hands-on experience and practical knowledge. Upon completion, each participant received a certificate and a ₦200,000 startup grant to launch their businesses, ensuring they had the financial backing needed for success.

“Phase One of the training and empowerment program, which centered on cassava-garri processing, took place earlier in September. The three-day training, anchored by the National Directorate of Employment (NDE), provided over 120 women and youths with comprehensive knowledge of the complete cassava-to-garri production cycle, including packaging, branding, and marketing strategies to ensure profitability.”
A statement issued by the Special Assistant on Media to the lawmaker, Ahmed Eniola Mustapha, stated that Hon. Olaide Mohammed provided each trainee with a ₦200,000 startup grant and supplied a grinding machine to each of the three local governments to facilitate mass garri production in the constituency, further supporting their ventures.
These training and empowerment initiatives, according to the statement, “demonstrated Hon. Olaide Mohammed’s dedication and commitment to improving the lives of his constituents at the National Assembly. Through consistent efforts like these, he is fostering economic growth, creating jobs, and ensuring a brighter future for the people of Irepo, Orelope, and Olorunsogo.
“This investment in the youth and women of the constituency reflects his unwavering commitment to sustainable development, growth, and prosperity for all.”
