The Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT), Oyo State Wing, on Wednesday in Ibadan elected new executive members to run its affairs for the next four years during its 8th Quadrennial Delegates Conference.
The election, held in the Oyo State capital, followed the expiration of the tenure of the outgoing leadership in May 2026.
Speaking at the opening session of the conference, the National President of the Nigerian Union of Teachers, Comrade Titus Audu Amba, said the union was built on democratic ideals and the principles of organised labour.
“The Nigerian Union of Teachers is founded on democratic principles and the philosophy of labour unions. It is our tradition to conduct elections at the national, state, and local government levels at the expiration of every tenure,” he said.
According to him, the election of new executives for the Oyo State wing became necessary following the expiration of the tenure of the outgoing leadership in May 2026.

Comrade Amba, represented by the National Social Secretary, Comrade Titi Ade Adebanjo, also reaffirmed the union’s commitment to teachers’ welfare and education development.
“We will continue to pursue improved welfare for teachers and advocate better conditions for teaching and learning across Nigeria,” he added.
In his valedictory speech, the outgoing State Chairman, Comrade Raji Oladimeji Ismael, listed some of the achievements recorded between 2022 and 2026, including improvements in welfare, professional development, and infrastructure.
He said the union secured prompt payment of salaries, annual increments, promotion arrears, and interventions in pension-related matters, as well as resolution of disputes involving victimisation, wrongful postings, and salary stoppages.
“Our persistent advocacy led to the recruitment of additional teachers and non-teaching staff, which reduced workloads, improved teacher-pupil ratios, and enhanced learning outcomes across schools,” he stated.
He also said the administration facilitated delayed promotions, organised training for State Wing Executive Council members, and carried out capacity-building programmes for young teachers.
On infrastructure, he listed projects such as renovation of the State Secretariat, establishment of NUT Model Schools, construction of classrooms, expansion of the Resource Centre, and development of a sports complex.
Despite challenges, he expressed confidence that the foundation laid would support further progress in the union.
In his acceptance speech, the newly elected chairman, Comrade Hassan Ajibola Fatai, said his leadership would focus on repositioning the union and improving members’ welfare.
“I will work closely with all members and stakeholders to reposition the union for greater progress and improved welfare for teachers across the state,” he said.
Comrade Hassan, a teacher at Migrant Farmers Primary School, Igbo-Iroko, Kishi, also pledged to protect the dignity of teachers.
“We will continue to protect the integrity, dignity, and professionalism of teachers in Oyo State,” he assured.
Other elected officials include Adeleke Adesina as Deputy Chairman, Alonge Oluyemisi as First Vice Chairman, Morakinyo Oyebola as Second Vice Chairman, Badmus Abiona as Third Vice Chairman, and Bello Folasade as Fourth Vice Chairman.
Others are Titilolu Ibukunolu as Treasurer, Dada Kabirat as First Internal Auditor, Akinjide Yusuf as Second Auditor, Ajala Niyi as Publicity Secretary, Alao Femi as Social Secretary, Areo Felicia as Assistant Social Secretary, Mobolaji Ademola as State National Representative, and James Ruth as Editor.
