Otunba Funso Lawal, an oil and gas guru, turned 70 on Friday, July 11, 2025.
It was gathered that he prepared for the day with indescribable joy. The reason, according to his close associates, is that the occasion afforded him a moment of introspection.
However, the gentleman disappointed many who thought he would roll out the drums in celebration as he opted for a defining moment as he visited Kabbah in Mecca for prayers.
The former chairman of the Corporate Affairs Commission, also used the birthday occasion to launch a foundation, Otunba Funso Lawal Foundation, with the purpose of bringing succour to the less privileged for good education and those that lack adequate financial support for healthcare services.
This initiative will provide financial assistance to Nigerians pursuing higher education in secondary and tertiary institutions, while it will also pay the hospital bills for those in need of good healthcare across the country.
Friends and admirers have commended the launch of the Foundation, stating he has lifted countless souls with his magnanimity and has become an angel of hope for the heavy-hearted.
Though Funso Lawal does not court publicity for his humanitarian gestures, he is nonetheless a hero. His worthy deeds have not gone unnoticed, as he has been honoured, both at home and abroad.
