THE Speaker of Osun State House of Assembly, Hon Najeem Salaam, on Sunday hailed the election of the former governor of Edo State, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole as the national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, describing him as a man of proven integrity and principle who has capacity to take the ruling party to the next level.
In a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary (CPS), Mr Goke Butika, which was made available to Tribune Online in Osogbo on Sunday, Salaam noted that the change in leadership of the APC in a rancour-free national convention had demonstrated to Nigerians that the culture of democracy is fast being entrenched in the nation.
He contended that a governing party like APC needs a chairman of Oshiomhole’s background to rejig and re-engage Nigerians on policy direction of the government and evaluation of deliverables.
According to the statement, “we are happy as a party that the new chairman of APC has a background in activism, labour movement and progressive politics. We are hopeful that his leadership will offer fresh ideas on the engagement of Nigerians on policies and internal democracy,” Salaam reiterated.

“What made APC convention a success story was the will to do the right thing. The singular action of President Muhammadu Buhari who insisted on having election at congresses of the local, states and at the national convention worked the magic.”
Salaam, however, urged the leadership of the party across all states to borrow a leaf from the conviction of President Buhari, saying that all-inclusive approach to politics he preaches and practices gave all stakeholders at the convention a fair sense of belonging.
He implored the leadership of the APC in Osun to handle the forthcoming governorship primary election with utmost caution and level playing field in order to have a common front at the battlefield of the governorship election on September 22, 2018.
