The Rector of Osun State College of Technology (OSCOTECH), Esa- Oke, Dr Samson Omobayo Adegoke on Wednesday disclosed that the institution had secured a license from the National Board For Technical Education (NBTE) to increase the students’ intake through the introduction of the Open Distance Flexible e-learning programme.
The rector who made this known at a press conference held at the rector conference Hall in the school in preparation for the school convocation ceremony explained that it is believed that, the programme would provide a viable alternative to the part-time programme since students will not have to travel to the institution to receive lectures.
He added that the programme would expand access to technological education to the teeming youths in the country, West Africa sub-region, and the world at large.
Dr Adegoke also pointed out that the institution is well equipped with facilities and qualified personnel for developing but intellect and harnessing talents of students in the institution.
The polytechnic don who attributed the major challenge confronting the institution to the dwindling number of students for administration every year owing to the economic realities of the moment in the country said, the institution intends to increase its student intake through the introduction of the Open Distance Flexible e-learning.
He stressed that the polytechnic would graduate a total number of 6,350 students for the 2019/2020 and 2020/2021 academic sessions for its combined convocation ceremony.
“At the 6th Combined Convocation Ceremony held on Saturday, October 12, 2019, I did promise to be holding Convocation Ceremonies every year as students graduate, but the outbreak of COVID-19 hindered that arrangement last year; hence the reason why we have to do another Combined Convocation this year”.
While disclosing that, the institution had established a life Empowerment Centre at Osogbo, the state capital where graduates from any discipline can take different short courses for the acquisition of skills for today’s workplace, said apart from academic courses, the institution has also trained its graduands in Entrepreneurial courses which have been made mandatory by the NBTE, Kaduna.

“Today, OSCOTECH is witnessing tremendous growth in physical, human, and academic lives aimed at producing graduates who can compete with others from any part of the world. It is on record that I inherited Sixteen (16) fully accredited programmes in Sixteen departments in four faculties.”
However, “the Management under my leadership approached and got the approval of the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), Kaduna for additional Eleven (11) new courses in 2019. As we speak, the College is running twenty-seven fully accredited courses, in five (5) Faculties with the addition of the newly created Faculty of Communication and Information Technology.”
“The College also has a Social Responsibility Project named OSCOTECH Foundation. OSCOTECH Foundation is a voluntary organisation (NGO) funded by the staff of the College through their monthly, periodical, or annual contribution. The foundation has been fulfilling its Corporate Social Responsibilities to Communities and Individuals. For instance, it distributed palliatives to two thousand (2,500) beneficiaries in eight (8) Communities around the College during COVID-19 lockdown.”
“The Foundation has also helped students who are in distress or in tight situations at one time or the other. My appreciation goes to all staff of the College. who have been contributing generously and unrelentingly towards the Foundation’s vision and mission.”

Oguntominiyi Oluyemi Oladimeji; in recognition of his contributions towards professional and career advancement in Technology and Engineering, and Mr. Bode Adediji, BSC, MSC, RSV, FNIVS, PPNIVS; in recognition of his immense contribution to the advancement of professional and career advancement in Technology and Real Estate practice,” he concluded.
