Nigeria Customs Service has deployed a new Area Controller, Ben Oramalugo, to Oyo/Osun Area Command to take over the leadership.
This was sequel to the recent deployment of Area Controllers by the acting Comptroller General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi.Â
Comptroller Oramalugo took over from the erstwhile Area Controller, Babajide Jaiyeoba, who had been deployed as Controller, Apapa Area Command.
This was made known by the Area Command’s Public Relations Officer, Kayode Wey, a Superintendent of Customs.
Before his redeployment to a new command, Comptroller Jaiyeoba steered the activities of the Oyo/Osun Area Command from February 2022 to September 2023.
Welcoming the new Area Controller during a brief handing over ceremony on Monday at the Oyo/Osun Area Command conference room in Ibadan, Oyo State, the outgoing Area Controller disclosed that the Command under his leadership surpassed its revenue target for the year 2022.
He made it known that the Command under his administration collected the sum of N47,408,251,086.73 billion as revenue and made various seizures of uncustomed goods with a Duty Paid Value (DPV) of N308,282,459 million for the period of January to September 2023.
Comptroller Jaiyeoba expressed appreciation to the officers and men of the Command for their cooperation, display of professionalism and resilience, emphasising that these qualities enabled the Command to achieve set objectives.
He urged all Command officers to ensure they keep working as a team, perform their duties within the ambit of the laws guiding the Service and extend the same cooperation he received to his successor.
In his remarks, Comptroller Oramalugo, who thanked God for life and the solemn occasion of the handing over, highlighted the core duties of Customs officers as revenue generation, trade facilitation and suppression of smuggling.
Promising to uphold the mandates, the new Area Controller commended his predecessor for the extensive work done and laudable achievements during his administration in Oyo/Osun Area Command.
He assured that he would continue from where he stopped, while he urged all officers to extend to him the same cooperation given to his predecessor, to enable the Command to achieve set objectives and attain greater heights.Â
He wished his predecessor well at his new deployment and in all his future endeavours.
Promising to run an open door policy, he expressed hope that command officers would continue objectively criticizing their operations with the aim of improving their command’s service delivery.
