One person has been found dead and two others rescued after a building collapsed in the Ikorodu area of Lagos. The two persons were rescued and the dead body was recovered by the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA).
LASEMA said it deployed its Emergency Response Plan to the collapsed building located at Jumofak Bus-Stop, Haruna, Ikorodu late Monday night on October 18.
According to a statement by LASEMA, “The agency’s response squad Tiger, Eagle and Lion immediately swung into action at the incident scene.
“Investigation carried out revealed that some part of a two-storey dilapidated building collapsed from the back due to inadequate maintenance.
“However, the response teams have rescued two adult victims (a male and female) alive, while one male was recovered dead.
“Risk assessment in collaboration with relevant stakeholders at the scene was conducted and residents were subsequently sensitised on the need to evacuate from the affected building.”
LASEMA added that the affected building has been cordoned off by the agency’s team while for rescue and recovery operations to continue under the supervision of the DG/CEO LASEMA, Dr Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu.
Search and rescue operations were still ongoing at the time of this report.
