TWO suspected thieves who specialised in stealing Mikano generators on Tuesday were arrested by men of the Ondo State Police command for stealing three giant generators valued at over N6 million.
The two suspects Victor Ologun and Innocent Ikechukwu, a commercial driver and Okada rider respectively, were also alleged to have stormed a gas plant company located in Akure, breaking into the vault of the company and made away with N500, 000.
Speaking on their arrest, the state Police Commissioner, Mr Gbenga Adeyanju, said the two suspects after invading the company, overpowered the security guards at the gas plant company, tied their legs and hands and cover their face with a cloth.
They reportedly broke into the safe of the gas plant company to steal the amount and made away with a Mikano generating set, valued about N2.5million, belonging to the gas company.
Adeyanju explained that suspects also stole three other Mikano generators at three different places which were recovered from the two suspects.
Explaining how the two suspects were apprehended, the State Police commissioner explained that detectives from the command used one of the phones stolen from the guards during the raid at the gas company to track them.
He, however, said that all the generators had been recovered in Asaba in Delta State, saying the effort is being intensified to arrest other fleeing members of the gang.
He said that the command was determined to rid the state of any form of criminality especially this festive period.
Speaking of their arrest, Innocent confirmed that he usually move around to scout for companies with Mikano generators while they map out strategies in how to steal the generator.
He explained that they usually hire lorries to lift the generators before moving the generators to the Eastern part of the country and dispose it to unsuspecting buyers.
The suspects also disclosed that the generators are sold to buyers between N80, 000 and N100,000.
