POLICE from Ondo command at the weekend apprehended a 34-year-old farmer, Segun Akande, over the killing of a 65-year-old grand mother, Mary Ogundiran, who was beaten to death by the farmer for intruding on his cocoa farm.
Speaking on the arrest of the suspect, the state commissioner of Police, Gbenga Adeyanju, explained that the woman was killed in a farm in Ofosu in Idanre local government area of the state.
According to him, the deceased was beaten to death by the suspect for plucking cocoa pods in his farm and said the suspect would soon be arraigned before the court.
The suspect while speaking on the death of the woman said he discovered the deceased plucking cocoa pod on his farm and tried to drive her away.
He however said he used stick to beat the woman who fell down in the process and gave up on the spot before any help could reach her.

Similarly, nine other suspects were paraded by the police over various offences, ranging from kidnapping, armed robbery to murder.
Three members of a cultist group, Arobaga, were apprehended in Akure, the state capital, while trying to forcefully initiate one Onyebuchi Aningo into the group.
Also, a member of the group was also alleged to have raped a 17-year-old young lady while he was arrested days after the incident.
The police command also paraded two notorious armed robbers, a serial burglar while a single barrel gun and two pump action rifles were recovered from them.
The police commissioner assured the people of the state of doing everything possible to rid the state of criminals and their activities, saying all the suspects will be charged to court to serve as deterrent to others.
