The protesters, mainly members of the PDP were armed with placards if various inscription such as “avoid trouble, don’t right Ekiti election, Don’t kill Fayose, every vote must count, don’t endanger our democracy, no to rigging, Rally is fundamental right of all parties, Shame of Nigeria Police: attacking Fayose is cowardice” among others.
The protest which was led by the State Vice Chairman of the PDP, Alhaji Fatai Adams, said the protest was organised in solidarity with members of the PDP in Ekiti and Fayose, saying what happened in Ekiti State on Wednesday was a heavy slap on the growing democracy of Nigeria.
Adams who frowned over the attack on Fayose describing it as an uncivil assault on democracy noting that the police in the country are trying to destroy the nation’s democracy.
He said, “this is a slap on democracy and a real civilian coup, the people of this country and PDP reject this and the federal government should do all within its power to douse the tension in Ekiti before the election.”
He alleged that the police were acting the script of the Federal Government, saying they are planning to right the election “but I want them to know that the whole world is watching them and they should desist from doing anything funny”
He said “APC and their leaders should learn and emulate former President Goodluck Jonathan who accept defeat without causing any uproar or chaos, that is the beauty of democracy.

He also frowned at the massive deployment of security officials and equipment to Ekiti state for the governorship election holding in the state on Saturday, stressing that it might be a ploy by the Federal Government to rig the election.
“Deployment of such a huge number of officers at a time many parts of the country are facing security challenges is not acceptable
“I wonder why they deployed 30,000 policemen to supervise an election in Ekiti while they could not mobilise 10,000 men to stop the killings in Zamfara and other places,” he said
Some armed police officers on Wednesday cordoned off the entrance to the Ekiti State Government house, restricting movement in and out of the complex while the security operatives dispersed members of PDP with tear gas during a rally in Ado Ekiti.
