As part of its effort to address the housing deficit, the Ogun State Government has completed the construction of 100 housing units at Gateway Aviation Village, along the Ilishan-Iperu road.
This was stated by the State Commissioner for Housing, Jagunmolu Akande Omoniyi, during the inspection of the project on Monday, noting that the project would open up businesses in the Remo Development Clusters.
The commissioner noted that the housing estate is equipped with facilities such as perimeter fencing, water, electricity, security, drainage systems, among other features.
He explained that the housing units were constructed as part of the aerotropolis around the Gateway International Airport in the locality.
While assuring that the second phase of the project, comprising 200 housing units, would begin before the first quarter of the year, he added that subscribers who have been allocated their homes can start moving into the estate in a few days’ time.
“For the first phase of the Gateway Aviation Village, there is a 75,000-litre water reservoir capacity here to serve this estate. The road network is 98% completed and from the feedback from the handler, by this time tomorrow, the whole road within the estate would have been tarred.
“This implies that before the end of the week, the residents of this estate can move in and begin to live in the estate because every facility that is needed for a comfortable living has been provided by the government of Governor Dapo Abiodun.
“One beautiful thing Governor Dapo Abiodun’s administration has done is to open up the Remo Development Clusters.
“In these clusters, we have the much talked about Gateway Village, the world-standard aerotropolis, and with this movement of goods and services, raw materials and agricultural products will soon commence here.
“Apart from that, commercial operations will soon commence at the airport and when all of these are put together, it goes to show that this Remo is open for business and it serves as a hub for business activities and connectivity within Ogun State.
“Agricultural products from the state or the Southwest could easily be transported and within six hours, they get to Europe. That shows that Ogun State is ready for business. This project has put the state on the world map.
“However, the airport cannot thrive on its own without having a community around it and that is why the Gateway Aviation Village is well primed to support and complement the aerotropolis so that people that work and do business around that environment will have a place where they can live, work, and play.
“So far, so good, what we have on the ground is fully sold and I am happy to announce that on, or before the first quarter of this year, we shall open up phase 2 for another 200 units affordable housing scheme,” he said.
Earlier, the commissioner had led a delegation of his ministry to pay a condolence visit to the palace of the Alaperu of Iperu Remo, Oba Adeleke Idowu-Basibo, who died on Tuesday at 67 after a brief illness at Babcock University Teaching Hospital, Ilisan-Remo.
Omoniyi described the late royal father as a leader par excellence and father to all in the state, praying that Almighty God would grant the family, sons and daughters of Iperu-Remo, and the state at large the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.
