The Anambra State Governor, Chief Willie Obiano yesterday, said the state government has concluded plans to build Drug Rehabilitation Centre worth N120millions for Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in the state.
Obiano also called on security agencies in the country to shun the abuse of illicit drugs.
The governor made the call at a ceremony to commemorate the 2019 International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Drug Trafficking held in Awka, Anambra State.
Chief Obiano was represented by the executive secretary, Anambra state health insurance scheme, Dr Simeon Onyemaechi at the occasion.
He said the state government has acquired 500 hectares of land for the construction of the Centre to take care of those who are victims of drug abuse.
According to him, the state budgeted N120 million for the project in the 2019 budget.

The governor also assured that the state government would do its best towards the completion of the Centre within the time frame.
He called on school principals in the state to establish drug-free clubs to educate the youngsters on the danger of drug abuse.
“For schools that have not established drug-free clubs, the Principals should do their best to make sure they establish it,” he said.
He urged the youths to desist from drug abuse, stressing that drug abuse can easily terminate one’s ambition.
“Stop drug abuse before it becomes too late for you because it will destroy your aspirations in life. Any youth who aspire to be a great leader must not take drugs,” he said.
Earlier, in his speech, the Anambra NDLEA commander, Sule Momodu called on the public to partner with the agency by providing useful information about drug trafficking and abuse.
According to him, the agency is all out to make sure the state is eradicated of drug abuse and trafficking, noting the NDLEA is currently sensitising youths on the danger of drug abuse.
He regretted that some youths in the state see drug abuse as a way to go, urging communities and other agencies to assist NDLEA in the fight against the surge.
“We have a challenge today in Anambra, most youths see drug abuse as a way of life. We must fight together, these drug traffickers are in your communities, expose them to us. We need your support to eradicate the menace of drug abuse and trafficking,” he said.
